Training for Data Protection Officers

The first in a series of trainings in the implementation of the Law on Personal Data Protection, was held in the Great Hall of the Assembly of the City of Novi Sad for data protection officers of 36 city, provincial and other public institutions.

The importance of protecting personal data, consent to their processing, the purpose of legal and justified processing and transfer, as well as determining the public and legitimate interest in processing, are just some of the topics in the focus of public interest. The aim of the training is to familiarize data protection officers or other persons designated by personal data controllers and processors (if they do not have a designated data protection officer) with the current legal solutions in the EU and the Republic of Serbia and train them for proper application of the Personal Data Protection Law.

On-site trainings will be implemented as part of the project support in the forthcoming period in 15 selected local self-government units and are particularly significant for raising personal data protection capacities. In addition, panel discussions will be organized on the topic of personal data protection, which are primarily aimed at raising the awareness of the general public and informing citizens.

The training was conducted by representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Protection of Personal Data, with the support of the multi-donor “Facility supporting strengthening rule of law in the Republic of Serbia" (EU FOR FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AND FOR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS), co-financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and training activities were implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
